Demaris received a bag full of goodies and has had her brochure printed so that it can be distributed to the whole school this Wednesday with our newsletter. Well done to Dayna who was awarded 2nd place and to Eva, Katie and Jasmine who received highly commended for their efforts.

Catchment Safari

Today some of our OC students were invited to attend a Catchment Safari as part of the Styx/Throsby Creek brochure competition. This excursion was organised by Amanda Burrows from the Hunter Water Authority/Waterwatch and allowed students the opportunity to study our local creek environment, conduct water testing and enjoy a harbour cruise. A great day was had by all as you can see in the photos below.

Styx/Throsby Creek Competition

This term students in the OC took part in the Styx/Throsby Creek competition which involved designing a brochure that promoted the message of keeping our waterways clean.

Allan and Mitch have made a stopmotion film of students showing their brochures. The brochures will be judged at the end of this week so fingers crossed OC! The winner will receive some great prizes and also have their brochure published and distributed to the school community.

Throsby/Styx Creek Competition

Today students in the OC received a visit from Environmental Officer Amanda Gregory to introduce the Throsby/Styx Creek brochure design competition. The competition allows students to help Waterwatch and Hunter Water teach the community about water pollution. The winner of the competition will have their brochure published, printed and distributed to Tighes Hill students and the community. During the visit today students learned all about the ways to keep waterways clean and the affects pollution and illegal dumping have on catchments and ecosystems. A huge thank you to Amanda for visiting us today and inspiring our students to take care of the environment. I can’t wait to see their fantastic brochures when they’re finished!
