On Friday, 5/6A OC and 6B attended the annual Discovery Day: Science & Engineering Challenge, hosted by St Therese’s Primary School. It was a great day and students were involved in a variety of challenges, from building miniature catapults, bionic hands, constructing water turbines, developing networks, using light transmission to communicate messages, and bridge building to support strong weights. Here are some photos and videos from our day.
Congratulations to the OC who were the winners at today’s Science & Engineering Challenge! Students did a fantastic job working through a series of STEM challenges which included bridge building, creating a bionic hand, designing a chair, creating an earthquake-proof tower, wiring a city with electricity and creating secret coded messages to send via fibre optic rods. Well done to everyone for their team work, problem solving and creativity. It’s been a huge week, so enjoy a relaxing weekend!
This week the OC attended the Science & Engineering Challenge at St Therese’s School in New Lambton. We took part in a variety of team challenges including bridge building, creating a mini catapult, making an electricity network, building an earthquake stable tower and designing a chair for pets. We had a wonderful day and were very pleased to finish 3rd. Well done, everyone!
Today the OC attended the Science & Engineering Challenge at Kahibah Public School. We took part in a variety of team challenges including bridge building, making a bionic hand, creating a mini catapult, making an electricity network, building an earthquake stable tower and designing a water distribution system. We had a terrific day and were super excited to be announced as the winners at the end of the day. Well done, everyone! I’m so proud of you.
Today the OC attended the Science and Engineering Challenge Day at Kahibah Public School. This event is certainly a highlight of the year, with students participating in a variety of engaging and hands-on challenges. Students demonstrated excellent team work skills whilst taking part in activities including electra-city, Mars buggy, puff puff car and water works. As you’ll see in the photos below, we had a terrific time and definitely have some future scientists and engineers among us!
Below is a short clip called “What is Engineering’ which was shown today to help give students an understanding about the different types of engineering.
Congratulations to our wonderful OC students who participated in the Newcastle University Science and Engineering Challenge Day at Kahibah Public school today. Students took part in a variety of challenging tasks including bridge building, mini catapult making and testing, electric circuit construction and building a working vehicle. Our clever students once again impressed us with their knowledge and talent and were the winning school of the competition. Well done OC!
