Reminders

Just a few reminders about all of the excursions and events coming up in the next few weeks of term…

This Thursday we have our annual Cross Country event for all students and on Friday our Year 6s will head to Waratah Technology Campus to participate in taster lessons – art, cooking, and metalwork (BBQ lunch included). Orders for our Yr 6 Graduation shirts need to be in by the end of the week.

Good luck to our Yr6 students sitting the Selective High School test in Week 7. We will be receiving a visit from our MiS Mathematician Dr Jarad on Wednesday 11th.

Week 8 is going to be very busy. We have a visiting performance on Wednesday 18th from Brainstorm Productions called the Protectors. On Thursday 19th the OC head off to the Newcastle Writers Festival to work with authors Kaz Delaney and Matt Ottley. The SRC are organising a Fun Day on Friday 20th to support and raise money for Camp Quality. Students can dress in mufti for a gold coin, purchase a pizza lunch and be a part of the Talent Show at recess.

In Week 9 we will be celebrating Harmony Day on Thursday 26th with a combined art project, shared lunch and class performances. Zone Cross Country, for qualifying students, will take place on Friday 27th.

Week 10, the final week of the term, will also be action-packed. We will have our Hall of Fame assembly on the Monday afternoon, with many students on track to achieving 5 mastery ribbons. Our Stage 3 excursion to State Parliament and the Australian Museum will be on Wednesday 1/4, departing at 8am. Thanks to the parents who have volunteered to come along. Our last day of the term, Thursday 2nd will be the Easter Hat Parade. After all this I’m sure we’ll all be ready for the Easter break!

If you have missed any of the numerous permission notes sent home, they can be accessed from our school website. The link is below.

Information was also sent home today about parent-teacher interviews in Weeks 8 and 9. These can be booked online or you can send in the paper copy.

Our BYOD trial will begin this Wednesday. Students must return their signed user agreements before they can take part.

What’s On!

Term 2 has gone so quickly! Below are a few reminders about events taking place during these last 2 weeks of term.

This Friday is the SRC out of uniform day to raise money for Stewart House. For a gold coin donation students may come dressed in blue or yellow.

Next Monday (23/6) is our Principal’s Personal Best assembly, beginning at 2pm in the upper hall. All welcome to attend! Our 2 PPB recipients will also be invited to join Mr Selwood for morning tea on Thursday (26/6) morning. Yum!

Tuesday (24/6) is going to be exciting as we have our first visit for the year from our class scientist, Dr Graeme. He will be showing us how to build some solar carts that we can hopefully race around the playground. Fingers crossed for a sunny day!

On Wednesday (25/6) we will be celebrating Star Card Reward day with a movie, games and hotdogs. Our class will be deciding/voting on what movie they would like to watch during this session. All students may come dressed ‘mufti’.

So far this term, many of our students have participated in the UNSW ICAS computer skills, science, writing and spelling competitions. If you are yet to enter your child for English or Maths, notes and money are due at the office by Monday (23/6).

Our classroom is running low on boxes of tissues and glue sticks. Any supplies would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t forget you can access our school newsletter via our website or app each Wednesday (even weeks). There’s usually lots of photos of the OC superstars, so be sure to take a look!

Our Canberra excursion is coming up next term. Please ensure you have paid your $50 deposit by the end of next week.

Notes were sent home this week about our end of term Speaking and Listening task. These are due to be presented to the class during Week 9 – students have selected the day they are going to present them. This will be the only homework due next week.

Lastly, we will be having a special assembly to celebrate NAIDOC day on Friday (27/6) beginning at 12.30pm. All welcome to attend!

Well done to all the students who have worked so hard this term! Enjoy the last 2 weeks. Any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Welcome back!

-------------------
Welcome back to another busy and exciting term in the OC. School begins for students tomorrow, with Week 1 already shaping up to be very busy.

Our school photos will take place on Wednesday, so please ensure students are in full school uniform and that photo orders and money is brought in to school on the day.

Our Stage 3 Interrelate program also begins this Wednesday, so please return any outstanding permission notes ASAP.

Our school ANZAC service will be held this Friday at 12noon, led by our student leaders. Parents and caregivers are most welcome to attend.

A reminder that entries for this year’s UNSW Spelling and Writing competitions need to be returned to school by Monday Week 2. Entries for English and Maths close on Monday of Week 9.

Be sure to visit the OC Events page as I will be updating it regularly with activities and events for the term.

Looking forward to a super term!
