Congratulations to the OC who were the winners at today’s Science & Engineering Challenge! Students did a fantastic job working through a series of STEM challenges which included bridge building, creating a bionic hand, designing a chair, creating an earthquake-proof tower, wiring a city with electricity and creating secret coded messages to send via fibre optic rods. Well done to everyone for their team work, problem solving and creativity. It’s been a huge week, so enjoy a relaxing weekend!
Congratulations to everyone who had a go in today’s Premier’s Spelling Bee event. It was wonderful to have so many students from our class be brave and give it a shot. It was a tough event, with our 4 top spellers – Emma, Celeste, Noah and Chelsea battling it out for the top spot. Well done to Chelsea who claimed 1st place, followed by Noah in 2nd and Emma and Celeste equal 3rd. Chelsea and Noah will join our Stage 2 winners in representing our school at the regional finals later this term. Certificates for all participants will be awarded at Monday’s assembly. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who came along to watch and support our children today.
Congratulations to all of our amazing public speakers who took part in the Speak Off competition this morning. It was a tough decision as there were so many fantastic speakers, however, Ember and Georgie were the overall winners. The girls will represent our school at Zone next term. Well done, everyone!
Congratulations to our wonderful Year 6 debaters, Ember, Celeste, Oscar and Jamie, who competed against Waratah PS today and won! A terrific achievement and lovely birthday surprise for our debating teacher, Mrs Derricott.
Well done to our wonderful writers who received a letter from the Write4Fun competition today about making it into the second round of judging. It was great to have so many students receive an Achievement Award and a Certificate of Excellence for our school. Fingers crossed for when the winners are announced later this month.
Congratulations to all our super chess players who did an amazing job representing our school at the Interschool Chess Challenge today at HSPA. We won the primary division, earning us a place in the semi-finals next term and also had the top 6 highest scoring players in the tournament! Well done Jamie (1st), Noah (2nd), Hunter (3rd), Connor (4th), Akira (5th) and Ty (6th). A great result today and also excellent sportsmanship, camaraderie and enthusiasm. Congratulations, everyone!
Congratulations to Eliza who was announced as one of the competition winners in the Hidden Port Competition for her story ‘Black Harris’. It will be published on the Hidden Port website soon. Eliza will also be receiving a $20 gift certificate to Q’s Books in Hamilton. Great work, Eliza! We are so proud of you.
What a magical day! Congratulations to all of our students who did an amazing job today during our first ever Tigh-Wizard Tournament. We were so impressed by the effort and creativity of costumes – you all looked awesome!We started the tournament off with a fashion parade where teams strutted down the runway displaying their costumes and beautifully designed team crests.Everyone actively took part in the many challenges we had on offer including Maths Mayhem, Maze Runner STEM, Sporting Circuits, Speaking ‘Um’ Challenge and a range of tricky trivia tasks.Well done to Team Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children who placed 1st at the end of the day, closely followed by Team Star Wars in 2nd and Team Harry Potter in 3rd. Thank you for a fantastically fun day, what a great way to finish off the term!
Today we were very fortunate to receive a visit from Karen Eastwood who delivered a workshop for us in preparation for the Hidden Port project. Students have received information about this competition and I have also attached it below.
Newcastle has an amazing history – we need your help to explore it! Curious Legends and Newcastle Region Library are collaborating to discover the hidden history of Newcastle – what’s our past, and where are we now? We’d love you to be involved!
The best photos and stories from the Hidden Port Competition will win a prize. Then in May, professional artists from Curious Legends will be working with the local community to create a large scale street theatre performance! – Hidden Port Project website.
