Wooooooo!!!

Wooooooooo!!! Today the OC attended a special event at the University of Newcastle – Woo, New & You! We listened to lots of experts in the field of maths, science and STEM, with the highlight being an inspirational talk from Australian of the Year and teaching superstar Eddie Woo. Eddie’s presentation was titled Reimagining Maths and focused on the ideas of mathematics being about playfulness, exploration and teamwork. We got to meet Eddie, who was incredibly generous with his time, and all received a copy of his amazing book Woo’s Wonderful World of Maths!

Shadow Puppet Fun!

Today we received a visit from Mitch (Nashi’s Dad) from Curious Legends in preparation for a special outdoor performance this Saturday evening of The Tiger, The Holyman and The Jackal. Students enjoyed making shadow puppets and testing them out in the dark. All the details are in the flyer below for anyone interested in coming along on Saturday night. Thanks Mitch!

Swimming Carnival

It was a beautiful day for a swim yesterday and the amazing competitors didn’t disappoint! Well done to everyone who participated in a race, earning House points and boosting team morale. The points were very close throughout the day, with one House charging into the lead by the end. Congratulations to Team Mitchell! Thanks to Mr Slade for organising another great Carnival.

Outdoor Fun!

It’s hard to believe it was only this time last week that the OC headed off for their first excursion to the Outdoor Education Centre at Morisset. Despite the hot weather, spirits were high and it was great to see everyone have a really good go at all the challenges and give lots of encouragement to others. Enjoy our photos below!

Pi & Party time!

Last Friday we celebrated the end of the year with our class party and secret Santa. Thank you to everyone who brought in some tasty treats to share. As part of the OC tradition, we had our annual Pi Challenge – a competition to see who can accurately recite the most digits of Pi. Will managed 8, Julian came up with 9, Noah got to 25, Jules and Hamish Mo did an impressive 35, Grayson and Oliver smashed it with 50 and the very sneaky Emma absolutely nailed it by doing 61! Very impressive! (I can do 3.14… that’s it). As part of the tradition, we celebrated with apple pie.
