Murrook Culture Excursion

Year 5 and 6 students attended the Murrook Culture Centre today as part of their Aboriginal History unit this term. They participated in a variety of activities, including Aboriginal Totem Art with RachelBush Medicine and Tucker, Aboriginal Artefacts, Worimi History and Boomerang throwing. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about Worimi culture from Worimi men and women. Thank you to Mrs Bowman for organising today’s excursion and a special thank you to Kristy Pascoe for giving up her time to come along with us today. Enjoy the photos from our day.

Newcastle Writer’s Festival

The OC had a terrific time attending the Newcastle Writer’s Festival today. We enjoyed author presentations from writers Michael Wagner and George Ivanoff, who were both incredibly entertaining and inspiring. It was great to see students purchasing some new books! As part of the Festival there’s also a Free Family Fun Day taking place on Saturday 8th April between 10am-2pm at Wheeler Place. There will be lots of great activities including author appearances from Jackie French and Richard Roxburgh.

Happy Harmony Day!

Thank you to everyone for your wonderful support of this fantastic event today! The effort and volume of delicious dishes for our shared lunch was astounding. Thank you to all the families who contributed and to the lovely parents who helped us serve lunch to all our students.

Our senior students did an excellent job leading cultural activities with our younger students during the middle session, followed by beautiful performances in the afternoon. A huge thank you to our talented Miss Hibbert  for arranging and leading all the performances today. Enjoy all the photos and videos below!

It’s a yes from me…

To finish off an amazing term in the OC, we will be having our very own talent quest on Thursday 6th April! So, if you can sing, dance, play an instrument or simply entertain us, I encourage you to sign up! 3AD will be our lucky audience on the day and we’ll have prizes to give away and a mystery judge (Lady Gaga? Ed Sheeran? Adele?). All will be revealed April 6, 11.40am.

Thank you, Oscar, for making our beautiful poster!

ICAS 2017

Just a reminder that entries for this year’s ICAS competitions – Digital Technologies, Science, Spelling, Writing, English and Maths – close this Wednesday 29th March at 3pm. Don’t miss out!

Collaborative Writing Fun!

Our Stage 3 students mixed things up today and enjoyed a writing workshop in collaborative groups focused on devices, vocabulary and punctuation. My wonderful group created some excellent pieces using the ‘show, don’t tell’ method and evoking the 5 senses. Unfortunately, we did run out of time to share them all with each other, so please comment below and share your favourite example from today.

Harmony Day celebrations this Friday!

Our Harmony Day celebrations will be taking place this Friday! Remember to wear something orange or traditional dress for a gold coin donation. We hope you can join us from 12.45pm for our shared lunch and bring a dish for our multicultural feast. Performances from our choirs and stage groups will begin at 1.20pm. Looking forward to a harmonious day!

Healthy Harold!

The OC had a great time today visiting the Life Education Centre at Edgeworth. Thank you to our wonderful presenter, Dale, who who delivered the Decision Making program to students and tackled lots of interesting topics and issues. An information flyer was also sent home with students today with links to the Life Education website and helpful tips for discussions at home. Thanks for supporting this worthwhile program.
