Checkmate!

Congratulations to our super Chess team – Noah, Oscar, Jamie, Akira and Connor – who are through to the Finals of the Interschool Chess Challenge in Sydney next month! Today I had the pleasure of joining the boys at Coal Point PS for the Semi-Finals and they did an outstanding job representing our school and placing 3rd overall. This will be the first time a Tighes Hill team has made it to the Finals – I’m so proud of you all!

Healthy Harold

Today we had our excursion to the Life Education Centre at Edgeworth. We participated in a great program called It’s Your Call which was about decision making, cyber safety and drug and alcohol awareness. Students also took home an information sheet which outlines the key messages of today’s visit. A huge thank you to our wonderful presenter, Leisa. It was great to see everyone was still very excited to meet Healthy Harold.  Calvin was lucky enough to take Harold on in a Dance Off!

Buddy Time!

Well done to our Year 5 students who took part in a Buddy Bear mosaic activity last Friday with their Kinder Buddies. It was so lovely to see our senior students show such positivity and kindness towards our younger students. Great work Y5!

Last term our top maths students were invited to take part in the AMC’s Challenge program for Year 5 & 6. Art Cave

Last term in Art Cave all Stage 3 students participated in Lino Printing. Students began by creating and drawing a unique design, tracing this onto their lino, carving their design and finally printing. Below are some photos of our completed prints. A huge thank you to Jane, who not only volunteers her time, but organises all of these fantastic Visual Arts opportunities for our students. This term students have begun working on self-portraits. Can’t wait to see how they turn out!

OC Excursion tomorrow – cancelled

Unfortunately due to the bad weather our excursion to the Mini EV Practice Day tomorrow has been cancelled. At this stage, the Prize Day Event will still go ahead on Saturday 13th August. School as normal tomorrow.

It’s Raining Eggs!

We completed our STEM Spectacular this afternoon with a combined Stage 3 activity – The Egg Drop Challenge! Students weegg dropre tasked with designing and making a contraption to support an egg (yes, a raw one) during a high drop. Thanks for your efforts and generosity donating recyclable materials for the challenge. There were lots of interesting items, including plastic bags, balloons, bubble wrap, cardboard, foam, bottles and boxes! It was great to see lots of creative and innovative designs and many secure contraptions that helped their egg land safely. Thank you to Mrs Bowman for organising this wonderful activity for us today!

STEM Spectacular!

stemWhat a fabulous way to celebrate Education Week today! Despite the miserable weather, it was great to see so many grandparents, parents, friends and family attend our STEM classroom activities and shared lunch! Congratulations to our Year 5/6 students who were undoubtedly the stars of the day. I was so proud of the wonderful job our students did presenting their activity for our younger grades and our many visitors. Thank you to everyone who came along today and supported this terrific event! Check out the photos below of our mini-scientists in action…
