Happy Halloween!

We celebrated Halloween today with our OC writing challenge – the 2 sentence horror story.

WARNING: Don’t read before bedtime.

I look at the photos on my phone and find one of me… dead. It says -10 seconds old. I hear a gun load behind my head. – Leo

I receive an email from Ms Armstrong. She died 3 years ago. – Leo

I asked my mum ‘what’s so good about a graveyard?’ She replied, ‘tomorrow you’ll find out.’ -Isac

My friend invited me over to play. She died 5 years ago. -Paige

I lay down on my coach in the old stricken house. My house was demolished 3 years ago. – Annabelle

The line of blood ran through the streets from the bodies that would be dragged down it. I was the only one who knew that they were in my attic. -Annabelle

The light turns off. No one’s at the switch. -Nashi

I liked visiting haunted houses. Until I realised the corpses were real. -Nashi

I received some mail yesterday. I’m the only person left alive. -Oscar

I look in the mirror. My reflection isn’t me. -Oscar

My friend lends me his drink bottle and I sip gratefully. It tastes nice, not like water. We’re not allowed cordial at school, so why is the liquid red? -Callum

I used to like the creepy costumes who would pass by on Halloween. Until they weren’t fake anymore. -Chloe

I love watching horror movies about death. Until I watched my own. -Isac

My mum calls me to the kitchen. I am an orphan. -Erin

My friend handed me a bloody knife. He died last year. -Sam

I have lots of Nerf guns. Last night while playing with my brother, I found out they’re not Nerf guns. -Sam

I used to like looking through the keyhole. That was until I saw the eye staring back. -Luisa

The sound of whistling didn’t scare me. It does when it’s not my own. -Luisa

I thought I was hallucinating because of my new medication. Then I noticed the packet was still unopened. -Luisa

During the night I pulled out my worry dolls. It wasn’t until morning that I realised what they actually were. -Millie

I saw someone strangling a man outside the window. I don’t have windows in my room, only mirrors. -Tama

My husband opens the door and says good morning. I killed him yesterday. -Tama

I don’t remember my life. That’s because corpses don’t think. -Jed

I used to donate blood. Until I donated my life. -Jed

I visited a graveyard. While reading the inscriptions on the tombstones I saw one had my name on it. -Jed

I heard banging from downstairs. I live on the bottom floor. -Hamish

I gave him the medicine. It wasn’t meant to be red. -Hamish

When I had cats, I heard scratching all the time. Now that they’re gone, I still hear it. -Harry

I love writing with red ink. 3 days ago my friend died from blood loss. -Harry

The sound of a text being sent echoes through my house. I don’t own a phone. -Mia

I hear voices. But there’s no one there and I’m all alone. -Mia

I’m paralysed. So why is my reflection moving. -Callum

I live in an apartment alone. One night I see a reflection in the mirror that isn’t mine. -Dimitri

I never leave the apartment because of what happened to my sister. One day it happened to me. -Dimitri

The asylum told me my condition meant that I heard voices. They never mentioned anything about the visions. -Rowan

The costume fits well. It covers the body. -Rowan

I used to like puppets. Until they began using me as one. -Rowan

I wonder why they always call me the faceless man. After all I used to have a face until tonight. -Wenyu

I wondered why there was a grave with my name. Until I touched it. -Wenyu

The black is unforgiving, but perfect for hiding bodies. -Amira

The screams echo through the streets, every night and day. No one lives down there. -Amira

Yesterday I buried a girl under the lemon tree. Her scent fills the house and walks up the stairs towards me. -Amira

Everyone always keeps the lights on so the monsters won’t get you. They come anyway. -Coco

My best friend send me an image of her at the savanna. She died yesterday. -Erin

I stare towards the jack-o-lantern and I see it move. I used to like Halloween. -Oliver

Having a baby brother, I got used to the sound of screaming during the night. Now it’s unsettling, as I live alone in the middle of nowhere. -Henry

I looked out the window to see a man with a knife. Only it’s not a window, it’s a mirror. -Henry

I’ve never been scared of death until I can into association with it. -Zali

I got used to babies crying. It was different when I live alone. -Zali

A man walks past my window. I live on the 68th floor. -Kynan

I liked playing with knives. Until I see all the bodies on the floor. -Julian

I liked Mars bars. Until Wenyu said they were gross. -Julian

Most people would be terrified to find fresh blood and scratches on the inside of their locked bedroom door. Me, I got used to it. – Callum

The trees seemed to shy away from the house as the screaming comes from within. I should never have left her in there. – Will

Death used to fascinate me until I saw it at its best. – Norah

Every morning I hear my mum get up and make breakfast. She died last year. – Jules

I swing my Tier 57 megablade deep into the enemy’s side. The doorbell rings and I take off the VR headset, only to see the bodies strewn across the floor. – Will

I got used to ignoring the screams just like everyone else living in my street. You can’t blame them for ignoring the screams when they started coming from my house. – Chelsea

I used to love writing horror stories, until they started coming to life. – Grayson

I forced the doll into the container full of water. Its lifeless eyes stare back at me. My lungs start filling with water and I can’t breathe as I start to drown. – Annabelle

I was walking to my friend’s house when I heard a scream, but when I turned there was nothing. I kept walking but I heard it again and when I turned around there stood a man with a knife in his hand dripping with blood. – Noah

My husband stared at the red roses he’d just given me, confused. “I thought they were white?” He said, holding a hand to the deep gash in his side.  -Emma

While watching Friday the 13th I thought I heard a chainsaw revving up outside my door. It was only when the movie ended and the revving continued that I started to get really worried. – Julian

I don’t feel pain. Pain only feels me. – Hamish Ma

My husband passed away yesterday. I wake up and hope it was just a dream but there’s someone else sleeping in my bed. – Henry

I used to joke about someone hiding in my sister’s closet. It was funny until it really happened. – Luisa

The clock chimes 12 and the lights turn out. The crunch of footsteps without doubt. – Rowan

I lay in bed with the screams of my family’s death filling my ears. I heard a bang at the door so I stumbled down the stairs of my rickety old house to find my worst fear at the door… the truth.- Fin

The clothes are washed but they bear fresh crimson stains. Every time I touch them I feel great pain. – Amira

I think about what it would be like to be dead. Now that I’ve invited my friend over I don’t have to wonder anymore. – Hamish Mo

Mum went to dye her hair and never came back. I can’t say what happened. – Amie

It’s the middle of the night and I hear Jack scream. I run into his bedroom only to find a knife through his heart. Finally, my plan had worked. – Ellen

My village is familiar with the constant screams of the people bound by chains, floating down from the mental asylum up on the hill. One day they all went quiet. – Raquel

I used to like to going on long camping trips alone to take pictures of the scenery. When I got home and I looked through the pictures I had taken, they were all of me sleeping with a shadow looming above. – Edie

My dog stares at me with his human-like eyes. My husband walks in with his hands covering his face, then reveals his eyes are missing. – Annabelle

My friend used to be a coal miner and would always have the dark coloured coal dust caked under his nails. I never used to worry about it until the day he came home with blood staining his fingertips. – Mika

I complain to the owner of my apartment about the voices I kept hearing at night. “Don’t you know,” he asked, “They’re the voices of the people who were murdered in that room, just like you!” – Chelsea

I’ve never been scared of death, until he came knocking. – Zali

Being a butcher, you get used to seeing blood. It’s different when it’s your own. – Luisa

It was normal when my brother would bring back lollies from trick or treating. Not so normal when he brought back fingers. – Luisa

The little girl next door loves playing tag with me. Tomorrow, her mum is taking me to see her grave. – Emma

Frightened, I run into my parents bedroom, padded feet silent on the smooth wooden floorboards. The gloved hand that grabs me, belongs not to my mother, nor the eyeless face that peers back at me. – Amira

I never wanted to murder anyone. They made me do it. – Will

 

I lift my head up and step out of bed only to realise there’s a faint shadow on the wall in front of me. I turn and look back and see a man with knife in hand for a split second, then nothing. – Norah

I plunge the knife deep into my victim, blood seeping out. It felt good. – Dexter

I took out my worry dolls so my nightmares would go away. I wake up to find all my nightmares are back and the worry dolls shivering uncontrollably. – Hamish Ma

I used to get good marks at school, until I told them my father’s job. – Oliver

I used to have an old cupboard. I threw it away when I heard the voices coming from inside. – Oliver

I bought a sausage dog and the next day it wasn’t there. That’s because I ate it for dinner. – Kynan

My brother was playing handball with me until the ball went down the sewer drain. IT dragged him in. – Julian

Feeling fire is normal, but not when it runs through your veins. – Julian

I always lock the front door and side gate when I leave because I get back late. When I arrived home just after midnight, the gate was wide open. – Henry

Every Halloween I carve a face on a pumpkin and put it on the front lawn. I returned home to find a head inside. – Henry

My walls are filled with porcelain dolls. At night time the hallways run with them. – Rowan

My urge to look downstairs is strong. But not as strong as my memory of what happened last time. – Rowan

I smiled at the sound of the familiar tick-tock of my grandfather’s only-working watch. My smile faded as I remembered that the watch was buried with him. – Emma

I set the ringtone on my phone to the sound of screaming for Halloween. I heard it ring, but then realised with horror my phone was switched off. – Chelsea

It’s midnight, I’m tired and about to fall over as I lean against a tall pole. However, I realise this pole has arms and is staring at me. – Eliza

My mum never told me how my dad died. But I saw how my sister died. – Eleanor

I used to think clowns were funny. That was until one appeared in my closet. – Jules

I don’t want to do it, it just happens. I love the look on people’s faces as they die and so does my doll. She told me to do it. – Celeste

I went to take a look, just in case I hadn’t imagined it. My eyes never closed again. – Emma

There’s a knife on your bed but you don’t worry. Until it’s in your head. – Blade

A noise behind me, I turn. It was nothing, I try to reassure myself. Again it rings out. I turn my face frozen in shock, it’s finally found me. – William

My mum walks into my room and says ‘look behind you’. It is only now that I regret falling for her trick. – Oscar

At first I thought the knocking was coming from my window. Then it came again, but from the mirror. – Layla

I wake up in the dark with an unsettling feeling that someone is watching me and realise with horror that I am not where I went to sleep. I stand and walk towards a disturbing rustling noise and suddenly hear a piercing shriek and feel an excruciating pain vibrating through my body as I flop to the ground. – Raquel

I saw my favourite colour once in a dream, it’s red. I woke up the next morning to see it splattered all over my bedroom floor. Lying amongst it was my father’s body, the front door slammed shut. – Ellen

I usually sleep alone. Now someone sleeps next to me. – Liana

My brother hates chess but tonight he decided to play with me. Every time I took a piece, he winced and another cut appeared on his face. I won the game. – William

I had a dream that my brother died but I knew it was just a dream. But then I woke up in a pool of red. – Oscar

I heard heavy breathing and looked at the serene pond next door. It felt a bit too calm, like at any moment I could be dragged in without anyone ever noticing. – Griffin

I kept seeing a man with a knife in my room, but my mother told me it was all in my head. Well, now the knife is! – Cai

My mum says I have amnesia. But why do I remember my other mum? – Sia

I used to like sitting in the dark by myself. Until someone joined me. – Freya

Here’s the thing about living alone, no one notices if you die. No one noticed me.  – Layla

It said on the news there was a murderer on the loose. Why is the murderer sitting next to me? – Chloe

I heard a man singing a lullaby through the baby monitor. I smiled, but realised in horror that my  husband had died 2 months ago. – Celeste

I hate it when dad turns the lights out, because then I can’t see my little friend in the closet. – Vincent

Today mum told me that the old man from across the road died yesterday. As I tuck myself in bed I notice the lights flickering on and off in his window. – Calvin

My dog was always barking. There was nothing there until IT showed up. – Blade

There were often noises in the wall, but it was just mum pulling up the blinds in the other room. Well, at least that’s what I thought until I woke up and saw a hole in the wall, in the shape of a man. – S Willson

My little brother used to love going to the skate park. One day mum asked me to go with him. My brother went first but once I got there all I could see was the red of blood. – Elsie

 

Campfire Tales

IMG_8632Well done to our students who shared their Halloween writing projects a couple of weeks ago. Students worked in groups with students from 5/6D to create some spooky stories which they read while gathered around our makeshift campfire. Some of the writing samples are attached below.
