Just a reminder, the OC have their first excursion taking place on Monday 1st February to the Outdoor Education Centre at Morisset. Payments and permission notes need to be back at school by this Friday. The cost is $70 and you can pay online via our school website. I’m sure students are excited about bringing in their devices (BYOD) which will commence in Week 3, once the user agreement and internet use forms are signed and returned. Our Uniform Shop will be open this Wednesday between 12-1pm and orders can be placed by emailing email@example.com
Welcome to a brand new school year! It was great to see everyone return today, bright-eyed and enthusiastic (and lots of new hair cuts!). Students received several notes today, including class equipment needs and a medical information note for our excursion next Tuesday to the Outdoor Education Centre. Please make sure your permission note, payment and medical form is returned to school ASAP.
Students also received a note about our Swimming Carnival which will take place next Thursday 5th Feb. Parents/families are more than welcome to attend this event, and Mr Slade would love some volunteers to help with timekeeping.
There will be lots of events coming up later this term including our Meet and Greet afternoon. This will give us an opportunity to discuss specific classroom routines and procedures. Homework will begin in Week 3. I will also be updating our OC Events page as dates/excursions are confirmed.
In the coming weeks, students will participate in activities and a video conference about cyber safety, in preparation for the implementation of BYOD later this term.
Farewell and congratulations to Heidi and her family who have relocated to Sydney after being offered places in the NSW Institute of Sport for Diving and Pymble Ladies College. A terrific achievement, but you will be greatly missed Heidi!
Well done to everyone for a wonderful first day back!
Term 2 has gone so quickly! Below are a few reminders about events taking place during these last 2 weeks of term.
This Friday is the SRC out of uniform day to raise money for Stewart House. For a gold coin donation students may come dressed in blue or yellow.
Next Monday (23/6) is our Principal’s Personal Best assembly, beginning at 2pm in the upper hall. All welcome to attend! Our 2 PPB recipients will also be invited to join Mr Selwood for morning tea on Thursday (26/6) morning. Yum!
Tuesday (24/6) is going to be exciting as we have our first visit for the year from our class scientist, Dr Graeme. He will be showing us how to build some solar carts that we can hopefully race around the playground. Fingers crossed for a sunny day!
On Wednesday (25/6) we will be celebrating Star Card Reward day with a movie, games and hotdogs. Our class will be deciding/voting on what movie they would like to watch during this session. All students may come dressed ‘mufti’.
So far this term, many of our students have participated in the UNSW ICAS computer skills, science, writing and spelling competitions. If you are yet to enter your child for English or Maths, notes and money are due at the office by Monday (23/6).
Our classroom is running low on boxes of tissues and glue sticks. Any supplies would be greatly appreciated.
Don’t forget you can access our school newsletter via our website or app each Wednesday (even weeks). There’s usually lots of photos of the OC superstars, so be sure to take a look!
Our Canberra excursion is coming up next term. Please ensure you have paid your $50 deposit by the end of next week.
Notes were sent home this week about our end of term Speaking and Listening task. These are due to be presented to the class during Week 9 – students have selected the day they are going to present them. This will be the only homework due next week.
Lastly, we will be having a special assembly to celebrate NAIDOC day on Friday (27/6) beginning at 12.30pm. All welcome to attend!
Well done to all the students who have worked so hard this term! Enjoy the last 2 weeks. Any questions or concerns, please let me know.
Our school photos will take place on Wednesday, so please ensure students are in full school uniform and that photo orders and money is brought in to school on the day.
Our Stage 3 Interrelate program also begins this Wednesday, so please return any outstanding permission notes ASAP.
Our school ANZAC service will be held this Friday at 12noon, led by our student leaders. Parents and caregivers are most welcome to attend.
A reminder that entries for this year’s UNSW Spelling and Writing competitions need to be returned to school by Monday Week 2. Entries for English and Maths close on Monday of Week 9.

Looking forward to a super term!
Just a reminder that information was sent home last week about our parent – teacher interviews, which will be held during Weeks 9 and 10 of this term . If you have not already booked an interview time, please find the instructions below for the online procedure or you can send in a ‘paper’ request.

Welcome back to what is shaping up to be another busy and exciting term for the OC!
Next week (Tuesday) our Stage 3 students will enjoy a trip to the movies and lunch at the Foreshore as their reward for running last term’s Year 6 Fair. Notes were handed out first day back and need to be returned to the office by tomorrow. The cost is $5 and they may bring spending money for the movies on the day if they wish.
Coming up in Week 3 is our Very Short Film Festival screening night at Hamilton Public school. Our students worked really hard making these films last term so fingers crossed we have made it into the top ten. Students and families are invited to attend this screening night and I will send home more information closer to the date.
In our Literature Circles this term students will be studying the novel Mao’s Last Dancer as part of our HSIE topic on China. Students have already begun their preparations for NaNoWriMo – National November Writing month. To get us ready for novel writing, students will be publishing some of their writing each week on their blogs so make sure to have a look!
Our excursions this term will include a visit to the CSIRO where our class scientist Dr Graeme works. Later in the term we will be taking part in a regional OC program called Thinkfest which will involve an excursion to Jewells Public school to present our work.
The other big events taking place this term are of course Presentation Day and the Year 6 Farewell in Week 10. Be sure to check the OC Event page as I will be updating this regularly to keep you up to date.
Today was an exciting day at Tighes Hill with the arrival and installation of bag hooks outside our classrooms! Since the whole school refurbishment several years ago both staff and students have been wanting bag hooks for their belongings and also to keep our school looking tidy. A big thank you to Mr Burgess for installing these for us and to Mr Selwood for making bag hooks a reality!
Thank you to all the parents who attended the OC information session last Wednesday night. As discussed I have added an ‘OC Events’ page to our class blog so you can keep up to date with everything OC. I will be regularly updating this page as dates/events are confirmed.
Below you will find attachments to some important notes that went home this week including our Sydney excursion, Waratah High Year 6 expo, AMC competition and the handout from the information session.
