Debating Fun!

Well done to our Year 5 debating team who participated in the Arts Unit Premiers Debating Workshop at Marks Point PS last Thursday. The day was full of workshops and opportunities to practice debating techniques and loads of funny debating exercises! Our team did such an amazing job and represented our school beautifully. Thanks to Mrs Derricott for organising this great event.

Congratulations to Sarah, who has been selected to be a part of the Regional Premier’s debating team. Sarah was chosen for the position after impressing a number of debating teachers and adjudicators during competitions this year. Sarah will join a team of students from the Hunter/Central Coast to take part in training and representing our school and region in future debates. Well done!

Today our year 5 and 6 debaters took part in Round 3 of the Equity Debate Competition against Merewether Public School. Both teams had impressive arguments for an interesting and challenging topic – Hollywood has a lot to answer for – but it was Tighes Hill who were the winners today! Well done to Allan, Mitch, Amy and Jorji who will now commence to the semi finals of the competition. A big thank you also goes to our wonderful Miss Beker, who works so hard to make our public speaking and debating competitions a success!

Debating Champions!

This term has seen many of our OC students take part in a variety of Debating competitions including the Premiers Debating competition and the Equity Debating competition. Earlier this week our Year 5 girls participated in a debate against Lambton school. The debate topic was ‘that Australian models under the age of 18 should be banned’. The girls were successful arguing against this topic and won the debate. Well done!

Congratulations Debating Team!

Today our class was lucky enough to be an audience for the Equity Debating competition between Tighes Hill and Wallsend Public School. Our students did an amazing job debating the topic Antarctica Should Be Left for the Penguins. Both teams presented well researched speeches but it was Tighes Hill who were victorious in the end!

Congratulations to our debaters – Dayna, Allan, Mitch and Jorji.
