Cross Country

Well done to all of our students who took part in our Cross Country event at Islington Park yesterday. It was great to see everyone get involved and do their best. Zone Cross Country will take place on the 27th March for students whose race times qualify. Thanks to Mr Slade for his organisation.

Hall of Fame

Today we had our very first Hall of Fame assembly for 2015! Well done to our wonderful student leaders who did a terrific job organising and setting up this event.

Congratulations to Sia, the first student to receive 5 mastery ribbons for respect and be inducted into the Hall of Fame!

We also inducted our new SRC members for 2015! Well done to Mikayla and Joe, who were voted to represent the OC. I know they will do a wonderful job.

Reminders

Just a few reminders about all of the excursions and events coming up in the next few weeks of term…

This Thursday we have our annual Cross Country event for all students and on Friday our Year 6s will head to Waratah Technology Campus to participate in taster lessons – art, cooking, and metalwork (BBQ lunch included). Orders for our Yr 6 Graduation shirts need to be in by the end of the week.

Good luck to our Yr6 students sitting the Selective High School test in Week 7. We will be receiving a visit from our MiS Mathematician Dr Jarad on Wednesday 11th.

Week 8 is going to be very busy. We have a visiting performance on Wednesday 18th from Brainstorm Productions called the Protectors. On Thursday 19th the OC head off to the Newcastle Writers Festival to work with authors Kaz Delaney and Matt Ottley. The SRC are organising a Fun Day on Friday 20th to support and raise money for Camp Quality. Students can dress in mufti for a gold coin, purchase a pizza lunch and be a part of the Talent Show at recess.

In Week 9 we will be celebrating Harmony Day on Thursday 26th with a combined art project, shared lunch and class performances. Zone Cross Country, for qualifying students, will take place on Friday 27th.

Week 10, the final week of the term, will also be action-packed. We will have our Hall of Fame assembly on the Monday afternoon, with many students on track to achieving 5 mastery ribbons. Our Stage 3 excursion to State Parliament and the Australian Museum will be on Wednesday 1/4, departing at 8am. Thanks to the parents who have volunteered to come along. Our last day of the term, Thursday 2nd will be the Easter Hat Parade. After all this I’m sure we’ll all be ready for the Easter break!

If you have missed any of the numerous permission notes sent home, they can be accessed from our school website. The link is below.

Information was also sent home today about parent-teacher interviews in Weeks 8 and 9. These can be booked online or you can send in the paper copy.

Our BYOD trial will begin this Wednesday. Students must return their signed user agreements before they can take part.

Reading Buddies

Our class has begun Reading Buddies with 1E each Friday.

Reading Buddies is a program where older students are paired with younger students for one-on-one reading time. The program aims to develop reading skills and enhance self confidence, academic performance and a love of reading.

Well done to our students for sharing their positivity and enthusiasm for reading with our younger students. It is a joy to watch!
