Hall of Fame

Today we celebrated our very first Hall of Fame assembly. Well done to the students from 2B and the OC who got into the spirit of this term’s core value -RESPECT – and performed a sassy and entertaining rendition of Aretha Franklin’s classic song.

Congratulations to Dan, who is the OC’s first Hall of Fame recipient for Respect. With many of our students working hard to achieve Mastery ribbons, I look forward to seeing many more students on the stage at our next Hall of Fame in Week 10.

Chess Challenge!

----------------------
Well done to our wonderful chess team who competed in the semi-finals of the Interschool Chess Challenge today at Callaghan College Waratah Technology Campus.

Our top 5 players – Dan, Joe, Zane, Jack and Adrian were invited to represent our school in this tough competition and did a great job playing a variety of tricky opponents. Unfortunately we didn’t come away with a trophy today but our students performed tremendously. It was such a close competition – we were only a few points below the winning teams!

Results from the tournament will be available from the Sydney Academy of Chess website within the coming days. Great work, boys!

Debating

--------------------
Congratulations to our Year 6 Premier Debating team- Dayna, Rory, Eva and Joseph, who won their debate today against Mayfield East Public School. It was a tricky topic, that sporting games with point scoring should be banned in primary schools. Well done to our team for their great work.

Camp Quality Fun Day!

Thank you to everyone who took part and supported the Camp Quality Fun Day today. Students enjoyed dressing in mufti, a pizza lunch and lunchtime talent show. Congratulations to our 2nd place winners, Dan and Rory, for their highly entertaining ‘Romeo and Juliet’ performance and to Dayna, Cala and Sahra for their terrific skit. Well done to Adrian for being a finalist in the joke competition. We raised close to $700 for Camp Quality today – a super effort! Thanks to the Britt family and Miss Staniland for their organisation of this worthwhile event.

Marvellous Maths!

Yesterday our class had a visit from our Mathematicians in Schools parnter, Dr Jarad Martin, who presented a session about order in numbers. Students had a great discussion about different types of numbers including prime numbers, natural numbers, integers, complex numbers and rational numbers. They also learnt about an amazing mathematician, Terry Tao and the Green – Tao theorem. Thanks so much to Dr Jarad for sharing his time and expertise with our class. We look forward to seeing him next term.

Let the Sun Shine!

Thanks to the beautiful sunny weather today, the OC were finally able to compete in their solar cart race challenge. A big thank you to Dr Graeme Puxty, our Scientists in Schools partner, who helped students construct their carts at the end of last term and joined us today for our official midday race. Students also had a great time customising their vehicles in the lead up to the race, using lots of striking designs and a fair bit of glitter! Well done to Max, Adrian, Oliver and Zane who had the fastest cart during today’s race. Thanks again to Dr Graeme for providing some terrific prizes – CSIRO Rubik’s cubes! We look forward to our next class visit in Term 4.
